Modern Persian Kitchen’s Baghali Polo has been awarded a star in the 2023 Great Taste Awards, a rating given to food that delivers ‘fantastic flavour’.
One of the most popular dishes in Iran, Modern Persian Kitchen’s Baghali Polo consists of fluffy basmati rice cooked with fragrant dill, broad beans and saffron. It can be ordered online and eaten on its own or as a side dish, cooked in the microwave or oven.
The Great Taste Awards are the world's largest food and drink accreditation scheme. Companies submit their entries and send samples to be blind tasted by chefs, cooks, buyers, retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers. Approximately 25% of entries will achieve the one-star rating each year.
Natalie Jahangiry, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Modern Persian Kitchen said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win an award for one of our dishes. This is our first year of entering the Great Taste Awards and to gain recognition for a cuisine that is bubbling under the surface and still not widely recognised is fantastic.”
Natalie Jahangiry, along with her father Shary and mother Debbie, created Modern Persian Kitchen in 2019, a nationwide Persian food delivery service to make modern and healthy Persian food accessible to as many homes as possible.
The dishes are designed to be cooked within 10 minutes and Shary has used his experience in the healthy food marketworking as head chef at Nosh Healthy Kitchen to minimisethe use of frying fats and gluten without compromising on flavour. Most dishes are dairy free, gluten free, and low in fat, salts, and refined sugar.
