When she met Mohammad, it didn’t take a lot for Marwa to be won over by the distinctive wonders of Persian cuisine.
Inspired by a hidden world of recipes, flavours, techniques and culture, together the pair set up Nutshell, a modern Iranian restaurant in 2019.
Nestled in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, the stylish space is spread over two floors and boasts a lively, welcoming atmosphere.
Exposed pipework overhead, beautifully patterned Persian tiles lay beneath an array of rose velvet seats as the scent of rich spices and fragrant herbs wafts from the open kitchen. It’s certainly a thrill for the senses.
The restaurant’s menu gives guests an aromatic taste of recipes handed down through generations. It’s these home-cooked dishes rarely making it into restaurants that Mohammad and Marwa were so keen to bring to the capital.
Dishes include a combination of boldly flavoured sharing plates and regional specialties with a twist. Among the most talked about: ‘bazaar’ bread doused in olive oil, salt, and sesame, and Mazandarani lamb robata loaded with apricot purée, golden raisins, and saffron and tomato salsa.
Drinks include Persian-inspired cocktails and mocktails, with a selection of artisanal wines from the region.
